IHG Hotels & Resorts - Find innovative ways for hotels to create and sustain a learning culture

Problem:

Climate change, trends, technological advancements, new regulations, crises... Hospitality is vulnerable to plenty of changes, but the answer isn't merely about adapting to change, but embracing constant evolution. This can only be achieved through knowledge, but fostering a learning culture in hospitality is challenging, as traditional methods fail to engage diverse staff effectively equaling stagnation, disengagement and less success orientation, guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. But how to maintain consistency and engagement while offering updated training? Innovation in approaches, leveraging technology and personalisation are vital for sustainable growth.

Idea:

TribeForge is a revolutionary app fostering dynamic learning, team building and engagement in the short and long term. It showcases both individual and team challenges while aligning them to the overall brand objectives in a catchy fun way. TribeForge overcomes traditional learning limitations while still bringing access to personalised plans, weekly learning pills, cross-training, mentoring, updated information and a rewardable employee scorecard. With a continuous learning strategy, stagnation, employee disengagement, and diminished healthy competitiveness are mitigated. Through technology-driven solutions and personalisation, it revolutionises learning and development in the sector while creating deeper pertinence senses, paving the way for sustainable growth and industry leadership.

First, TribeForge’s accessible user-friendly format eases all staff’s participation. After filling their own profile with a Mapstell personality test and own data, and being allotted to the clan of the tribe referring to their department (f.i. the Front Desk Clan), the tribe concept aims to generate a sense of belonging and common responsibility to sustain the team spirit, learning motivation and empowerment brought to details in the clans.

Meanwhile, H.R. and departmental management propose monthly goals and challenges encouraging creativity, quality, proactivity and out-of-the-box ideas. Furthermore, a personal weekly themed responsibility gives each member a learning pill to teach the rest regarding technology and innovation (informatics, sustainability...) or customer centricity (languages, standards...). The app’s game-format encourages team effort and progress in a fun way, by also scoring participation and exercises proposed. Therefore, managers own tools to acknowledge and praise staff’s performance while improving feedback.

Given the data gathered by its AI-powered software, reports include hard/soft skills, preferences, strengths/interests of each clan member. IHG Hotels could design hyper-personalised mentorship supporting all professional purposes and career paths. Moreover, when ambition is climbing the corporate ladder, the software seeks the perfect match member-mentor, incorporating more experienced members ensuring inclusivity and resistance to generation gaps while centering the human-to-human touch. Cross-training is also accessible by interested staff as part of the game, reducing turnover, so when aiming for different challenges, a skill-analysis to find the best relocating position will be done before a VR/AR first touch with the new department.

TribeForge is not just an app, but the seed of a future reinforcing team work towards common goals, while accompanying other professional paths within the brand. TribeForge promotes inclusivity, a sense of belonging, and care for learning and the world. Using true hospitality for good.
